Electric go karts are turning wheels in Frisco.

“They’re really, really fast but they don’t use gas,” said Robert Finley, Co-Owner of Pole Position Raceway.

Pole Position Raceway originally started in California in 2005. Now, the company has seven locations across the country, and their newest electric kart racetrack just opened.

“The concept was, let’s do indoor karting like we’ve never done before,” said Finley. “It was always done with gas powered go karts. These are electric battery powered go karts.“

Don’t let the electric karts fool you. Their torque and acceleration are arguably better than any gas kart out there and even the biggest race fanatics say their power is impressive.

“It’s better than the gasoline powered ones, which is shocking to me because I’ve been driving gasoline engines my whole life,” said customer Michael Arden.

“Actually coming in I thought electric go karts, forty five miles an hour there’s no way they can go that fast,” said Brantley Price, employee of Pole Position Raceway. ”But then after I’ve been in the seat of these at least ten times, every time it’s an adrenaline rush.”

Finley is excited to see so many people enjoying the new concept, and he’s already announcing plans of a new track in North Texas.

“The goal is in about ninety days we’re going to start breaking ground on another one over in on the west side toward Fort Worth near maybe Southlake,” said Finley.

Finley says it’s been hard work opening the Frisco track, but he’s not complaining.

“I’m having a blast,” said Finley. “It’s not work when you’re having fun everyday.”

And he says his goal is to make sure everyone at Pole Position Raceway is having as much fun as he is.

After Will Rosellini left the world of professional sports, he dedicated himself to science, a passion developed while watching some of the world’s best pitchers.

“I was curious how they could throw with the accuracy of a quarter of an inch, but I could only throw with the accuracy of three to four inches,” said Rosellini, CEO of MicroTransponder.

The former professional baseball player realized this tiny difference related to the nervous system. That discovery led him to start MicroTransponder, a company developing solutions to treat neurological disorders.

“What we’ve found in clinical studies is that by applying electricity to the vagus nerve we can open up a window in the brain with neurotransmitters that allow us to drive the brain to pay attention and learn faster,” said Rosellini.

MicroTransponder and research partner UT Dallas have quickly discovered their findings could potentially help people with a particular disorder.

“The place where that’s been immediately successful and applicable would be in the treatment of Tinnitus,” said Rosellini.

Tinnitus is not an ordinary ringing of the ears. It’s constant and can reach unbearable decibels, affecting the way of life for people like Phillip Lofton who suffers from Tinnitus.

“Because you suffer alone and nobody else can hear it, it’s hard for my family members and friends to understand it never, ever goes away,” said Lofton.

For twenty years Lofton has battled Tinnitus. The noise he hears has been measured at decibels equaling a jet engine. To Rosellini, that sound is a reminder of why he’s working so hard.

“For nearly two million people the tinnitus is so bad it affects them at work and for 15% of people of Tinnitus sufferers they’re emotionally disturbed by the suffering,” said Rosellini.

MicroTransponder has seen successful results on human patients in Belgium, and they are currently raising funds to be approved in the United States.

“For smaller companies that are doing medical products, we need to raise on the order of ten to twelve million dollars to get our product approved by the FDA,” said Rosellini.

Although MicroTransponder is in the early stages of fundraising and treatment, the company has big plans.

“We intend to restore or enhance the nervous system of one million patients worldwide,” said Rosellini.

And as long as he still suffers, Lofton says he wants to help find a solution.

Brittany McIntyre is one of eight hundred million people with an active Facebook account. Instead of posting pictures, McIntyre is using her iPhone to play a new networking game called Republik of MYIA. Similar to the popular game Farmville, users are able to build a virtual world.

“It’s a step up from Farmville because you also get the social networking aspect of it and you also get some fun games to go along with it,” said Brittany McIntyre. “You get to win stuff which is pretty cool.”

The game is the brain child of Creator Philippe Van Hecke. After seeing how excited people got building farms and trading livestock, Hecke wanted to build his own game, but give players better access to stay connected.

“What we wanted is to create a PC based game that had all mobile components embedded into the game so I think thats what we’ve created here at the Republik of MYIA,” said Philippe Van Hecke. ”It’s the first of it’s kind.”

Like farmville the Republik of MYIA can be played on any desktop or laptop computer but now users can use their Smartphones to play, and that means you can keep your world up and running anytime anywhere. That’s why Coleton Burch is glad he became a Myia fan. He doesn’t have to worry about his game falling apart while he’s away from his laptop.

“It’s cool how they send you mobile alerts when you’re away from your game so you can always be reminded what’s going on in your community and keep your people happy and your community safe,” said Coleton Burch.

To give users even more reason to log and keep playing, Hecke says everybody with a MYIA world will have a chance win all kinds of prizes.

“On City Hall you have the weekly sweepstakes that you can simply enter by clicking on it,” said Hecke. “It captures your cellphone information, and thats another real reward connected to what you are doing in the virtual community.”

Night clubs, banks and even churches. Build it all and share it with your friends. No doubt your virtual community will rest easy knowing you’re never to far away.

“I’m addicted to the web,” said Pelpina Trip.

Pelpina Trip has wrapped up three hundred and sixty five days as the Host of WebBeat.TV an online show that’s all about the internet.

“On every regular show we have a website of the day and I cover some viral videos,” said Trip.

The former CW33 social media reporter has a love for the web and its constant evolution.

“It’s insane,” said Trip. “I mean I remember when I first started at the 33 News and people were talking about this thing called Twitter.”

Now Trip admits she is a Twitter addict but aside from a love for surfing the web she enjoys finding out how the web is shaping the world around us.

“And it’s really interesting to be able to talk to professionals about what the real impact is of social media,” said Trip.

Professionals like Social Media Club of Dallas, Mike Merrill, who joined the WebBeat.TV crew for an episode about tips on using Linkedin. Trip’s counterpart is Videographer Norm Flores. Though he’s usually behind the scenes the two gave viewers a few laughs.

“Sometimes we’ll cut away to me doing something funny or kind of on the dumb side,” said Norm Flores.

This crew will move on to the next chapter of their media careers. A year of WebBeat.TV has opened their eyes to where they see the future of media: more online driven content.

“And that’s really what I’m passionate about,” said Trip.

Turning back the hands of time. In most cases, it’s easier said than done, not to mention painful, especially when it comes to turning around the effects of aging on the human body. However, Dallas spa owner, Lisa Cobb, welcomed a new FDA approved procedure that just might be the next big thing in anti-aging.

“Overall it takes less time,” said Luxury on Lovers Owner Lisa Cobb. “It’s not painful at all where as some of the others one are incredibly painful plus it can do the entire body.”

The process is called Venus Freeze. It uses radio frequencies to revive collagen which tightens and tones skin and reduces the appearance of cellulite.

“A lot of people see results after the first treatment,” said Cobb. “Some people really start noticing after the third or fourth.”

Cindy Ellig decided to try Venus Freeze on her thighs and started seeing results after her second treatment.

“I do like the results so far so I’ve gone to my arms and my neck,” said Ellig.

Luxury on Lovers offers Venus Freeze treatments starting at two hundred dollars.

It is the beginning of the school year and for many students, that can be a very trying time. Visually impaired students struggle with tasks like reading, and seeing the board. That’s why a company called ChromaGen™ has developed colored lenses that are correcting some vision impairments.

The colored lenses, or filters, allows the eyes to work together better by slowing down the information pathway to the brain. It’s a theory that’s been around for twenty years. The ChromaGen™ evaluation starts with a child or individual reading groups of twenty words, placed randomly on a card for two minutes. The physicians listen for fluency, skipping words, mispronunciation, or reversing letters.

Then sixteen filters are placed in front of each eye. The child is asked to choose which filter makes words easier to see and pronounce. The reading test is repeated with the different colored lenses on. Some experts say the results of the tests are improved by between twenty to one hundred percent, allowing students to pass more standardized tests and improving grades and confidence.

“Typically if they’re a good candidate for the lenses it’s a wow effect,” said Optometrist Carrie Alfieri. “It’s an instantaneous effect. I have had parents just sobbing. I have had parents come back within weeks saying that this is a new child that this is a totally different child.”

The best candidates for ChromaGen™ have symptoms like double vision, trouble focusing and seeing words that look like they’re banging together. Some experts say those symptoms exist because the eyes aren’t working together properly. Dozens of patients have been treated in North Texas and are using ChromaGen™ lenses today with great success.

ChromaGen™ lenses aren’t just limited to children. They may work for anyone experiencing any of these symptoms.
