Electric go karts are turning wheels in Frisco.

“They’re really, really fast but they don’t use gas,” said Robert Finley, Co-Owner of Pole Position Raceway.

Pole Position Raceway originally started in California in 2005. Now, the company has seven locations across the country, and their newest electric kart racetrack just opened.

“The concept was, let’s do indoor karting like we’ve never done before,” said Finley. “It was always done with gas powered go karts. These are electric battery powered go karts.“

Don’t let the electric karts fool you. Their torque and acceleration are arguably better than any gas kart out there and even the biggest race fanatics say their power is impressive.

“It’s better than the gasoline powered ones, which is shocking to me because I’ve been driving gasoline engines my whole life,” said customer Michael Arden.

“Actually coming in I thought electric go karts, forty five miles an hour there’s no way they can go that fast,” said Brantley Price, employee of Pole Position Raceway. ”But then after I’ve been in the seat of these at least ten times, every time it’s an adrenaline rush.”

Finley is excited to see so many people enjoying the new concept, and he’s already announcing plans of a new track in North Texas.

“The goal is in about ninety days we’re going to start breaking ground on another one over in on the west side toward Fort Worth near maybe Southlake,” said Finley.

Finley says it’s been hard work opening the Frisco track, but he’s not complaining.

“I’m having a blast,” said Finley. “It’s not work when you’re having fun everyday.”

And he says his goal is to make sure everyone at Pole Position Raceway is having as much fun as he is.

It was Dallas Mavericks Media Day and with the addition of Vince Carter and Lamar Odom the team is excited for the season to start on Christmas day.

“I’m fired up,” said Mavericks Forward Dirk Nowitzki. “It’s been a long summer kind of with a lot of uncertainty. You didn’t know what was going to happen so I was obviously pleased to see that we found an agreement that’s decent for both sides. Now we can go back to playing some hoops and defending our title.”

“Sixty six games in a hundred and twenty three days so if you have a deep team like we do now it definitely could help,” said Mavericks Guard Jason Kidd.

“We have good team,” said Mavericks Forward Vince Carter. “We have a good nucleus of guys here whose won championships around here. I’m just glad to be a part of it.”

“It’s going to be a lot of games coming,” said Nowitzki. “A lot of nights so we’re going to need everybody to contribute on certain nights. We have a fun group. A veteran group. I’m looking forward to it.”

“After a long lockout which no one wanted but it happened so we’re excited,” said Dallas Mavericks Jason Terry. “What better day to get things started then on Christmas? We’re going to drop the banner on them and on the Heat.”

The Mavericks know they have a lot of work to do to get back to the playoffs but it’s clear repeat is on most people’s mind who are looking for this team to succeed. It’s no easy task and it all starts at the American Airlines Center less then two weeks from today.

J Stephen Sadler has baked thousands of crumb cakes each one hand crafted as if a piece of art.

“We really want to provide an experience,” said Sadler, Owner of Crumbzz. “Not just a dessert or cake.”

When it comes to Crumbzz’s crumb cakes Sadler spares no expense.

“In order to make the best, you not only need to utilize the best baking methods, but you also have to find the finest ingredients,” said Sadler.

Sadler ventured out on an international quest to find the finest ingredients to create his Austrian family’s 400-year-old crumb cake recipe. From Tanzania to Saigon, he may have discovered the best of the best.

“I wanted to have not only the finest cake, but I thought it warranted the finest packaging,” said Sadler.

With the final product nestled in fine tissue and stamped with a wax seal, Crumbzz crumb cakes are ready to be enjoyed by clients. Although the Ambassador Hotel in Dallas is no longer open to the public, Sadler is busy in its kitchen baking the cakes. A chef and an entrepreneur, his new business is creating job opportunities for Dallas residents.

“You make money and that’s great but the real key is what do you do with the money once you make it,” said Sadler. He formed the Crumb International Green Foundation where 3% of Crumbzz’s profits are donated.

“And that company funds companies and providers around the world so that workers can get fair trade and fair salaries,” said Sadler.

In addition to purchasing Crumbzz crumb cakes online, a Tasting Pavilion has opened in Forney, Texas. Customers can not only taste the handcrafted treasures, but also experience the Crumbzz’s vision firsthand.

Brittany McIntyre is one of eight hundred million people with an active Facebook account. Instead of posting pictures, McIntyre is using her iPhone to play a new networking game called Republik of MYIA. Similar to the popular game Farmville, users are able to build a virtual world.

“It’s a step up from Farmville because you also get the social networking aspect of it and you also get some fun games to go along with it,” said Brittany McIntyre. “You get to win stuff which is pretty cool.”

The game is the brain child of Creator Philippe Van Hecke. After seeing how excited people got building farms and trading livestock, Hecke wanted to build his own game, but give players better access to stay connected.

“What we wanted is to create a PC based game that had all mobile components embedded into the game so I think thats what we’ve created here at the Republik of MYIA,” said Philippe Van Hecke. ”It’s the first of it’s kind.”

Like farmville the Republik of MYIA can be played on any desktop or laptop computer but now users can use their Smartphones to play, and that means you can keep your world up and running anytime anywhere. That’s why Coleton Burch is glad he became a Myia fan. He doesn’t have to worry about his game falling apart while he’s away from his laptop.

“It’s cool how they send you mobile alerts when you’re away from your game so you can always be reminded what’s going on in your community and keep your people happy and your community safe,” said Coleton Burch.

To give users even more reason to log and keep playing, Hecke says everybody with a MYIA world will have a chance win all kinds of prizes.

“On City Hall you have the weekly sweepstakes that you can simply enter by clicking on it,” said Hecke. “It captures your cellphone information, and thats another real reward connected to what you are doing in the virtual community.”

Night clubs, banks and even churches. Build it all and share it with your friends. No doubt your virtual community will rest easy knowing you’re never to far away.

You can’t get to Carnegie Hall without practice. The Children’s Chorus of Greater Dallas may know this better then anyone. During every one of their rehearsals each performer works hard to ensure every note and voice comes together in perfect harmony.

“It’s amazing when you get so many kids in a room that have different voices,” said singer David Holmes.

Becoming a member of this chorus represents years of hard work and dedication to music and performing. Each member is hand selected through auditions and taught to sing at their full potential.

“Sometimes if we don’t know a song, it may not seem like everything is all together, at least at first but when everybody has their part and everybody knows what they’re doing it’s kind of an out of body experience,” said singer Liam McShane.

The Children’s Chorus of Greater Dallas has performed for crowds all over the world for over a decade. During that time each child learns to succeed in as well as outside the chorus.

“Generally speaking they do better in school,” said Executive Director of CCGD Terry Harley. “They’re more social. They’re more likely to go to college, and graduate and more likely to become involved citizens.”

Students rehearse during the school year and will perform in several different concerts throughout the year.

Pat Smith is the wife of NFL Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith. She is a mother of five, entrepreneur and philanthropist that is building a community of women with one call to action – to Treasure You.

Smith was the first African American woman to win the Miss Virginia USA title and first runner-up in the 1994 Miss USA Pageant. Through all that achievement Smith’s world was crumbling around her. While preparing for the competition, Smith lost her mother to breast cancer. It was that loss that inspired her to begin mentoring women to achieve their dreams.

Through local television segments, social media and her Treasure You website, Smith’s organization is serving as a vehicle to help women in their journey to discover self worth. Smith recently hosted over one hundred women from all over the country at the Westin Stonebriar Resort in Frisco, Texas for her second retreat.

“Literally I have women that I’ve never met before who love the concept, stepped out on faith and came,” said Pat Smith. “They didn’t know anyone here. It just shows you that as women we need that.”

One of the many Treasure You moments Smith had planned included a private screening of the movie ‘I don’t Know How She Does It.’

“The trip on the bus was a total surprise and then the red carpet,” said Treasure You Participant Norvella Hayes. “We are getting treated like royalty. I love it!“

“Melani Ismail is a really good friend and she really thought I could benefit from Treasure You and really encouraged me to come and so far I have not been disappointed,” said Treasure You Participant Dawn Nuefield.

“I haven’t been the same since my first Treasure You Retreat so I’ve told them I really don’t know what’s going to happen,” said Smith. “It’s like a roller coaster ride but I know in the end their going to be so inspired and their going to be touched.”

Smith says she is already working on the next retreat and has hopes for Treasure You’s impact to expand to women not only across the nation but around the world.
