The NFL off season is all about the kids for Dallas Cowboy tight end Jason Witten.

“To have this football camp here is a humbling experience for me,” said Jason Witten. “I think it’s great to get back out in this community that’s done so much for me.”

Jason Witten teamed up with camp sponsors Raising Cane’s and Snickers to host the two day Old Spice youth football camp.

“There’s boys and girls here so you don’t have to have any experience,” said Witten. “We want them to come out. It’s amazing you can encourage these kids in two days. It’s definitely humbling for me.”

Witten and teammates got some one on one time with the campers. Many of the parents watched the kids participate in the camp from the bleachers.

“So far he hasn’t acknowledged me that I’m here or looked over my way so I think he’s having a lot of fun,” said parent Lisa Parish.

Witten hopes the kids learn more then just football skills.

“There’s so many other things that I want to encourage them in other ways like how important school is and just doing the right things and beings good young boys and girls,” said Witten. “That’s just as important as the football stuff.”

“It’s a person for the kids to look up to and for them to show their character while they’re here it shows the kids that they’re real people just like them,” said Parish.

This unique camp experience is creating unforgettable memories for everyone involved.

I have traveled and played internationally representing the USA in Pan American Games in Hermosillo, Mexico; The Junior Olympics in Nanjing, China and The University Games in Taiā€™nan City, Taiwan. During my time at Oklahoma I completed an internship at KWTV News 9 in Oklahoma City, and worked as a freelance reporter for the Oklahoma High School Sports Express television show. I also worked as the Sooner Sports Network Softball Color analyst both on the radio and television. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications in 2007, and was the 7th pick in the first round of the National Pro-Fast pitch League draft. After two successful seasons with the Akron Racers I returned home to California, where I continued my career in sports broadcasting. I worked in the media department of the WNBA Los Angeles Sparks. I also worked in the sports department at CBS/KCAL 9 in Los Angeles. I have recently found my way to the Dallas area to follow my dream of being a sports reporter. It is so good to see stories that are not about football’s bad boys. I have been a Jason Witten admirer since he has been playing for the Cowboys. He’s a great player, but he is an upstanding, do-the-right-thing, honorable person!! Jason & others like him are the ones who should be at the top of the news stories. I bought some Dallas Cowboys reusable grocery bags at Albertson’s last week. But, boohoo, the Jason Witten bags were already sold out…other people obviously like him, too!!

  2. Shirley Nesom Says:
