It all begins behind the scenes with a painstaking process.
“This is our pupae palace where we hot glue the pupae to strings,” said Steve Huddleston with the Butterfly Exhibit.
For those of you who aren’t exactly familiar with what a pupae palace is it’s where life begins for these soon to blossom butterfies on exhibit at the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens.
“After enough of them have emerged we take them to the conversatory,” said Huddleston.
It is at the conversatory that the adventure begins for butterflies and visitors alike.

“We have butterflies here from North America, central, South America and Asia,” said Huddleston. “People have a chance to see some beautiful butterflies that they wouldn’t see in the DFW area.”
“All of these butterflies are from all over the world and I have no idea,” said visitor Jenny Bedell. “I thought we were just going to get to see one type of local butterfly. This exceeded our expectations. It’s just absolutely beautiful. It’s stunning.”
The exhibit runs until April 4th and rest assured it is about more then just enjoying beautiful butterflies.

“At the same time people can learn the life cycles of butterflies,” said Huddleston. “We’ve got exhibits in the hall on pollination so it’s a very educational exhibit.”
An educational experience with a fun twist that seems to appeal to all ages.
“We have children in our group from three to fifteen and all of them are having a blast,” said Bedell.
“I was going to go to two other museums today but I’ve had so much fun at this exhibit that I’m just going to stay here,” said visitor Skip Jones.
The exotic and colorful surroundings help complete the package.
“We’ve seen purple butterflies,” said Bedell. “We’ve seen a lot of blue, red and yellow. We’ve seen it all.”
“Every color you can imagine,” said visitor Earl Smay. “I think the blue is the most popular because it really draws your attention and their larger too.”
So with its entertaining and educational aspects the Butterfly Exhibit makes a perfect spring break staycation or even some weekend fun. Just make sure you get there before they all fly away.
