As a health conscious, pregnant woman, staying fit and healthy throughout my pregnancy is of the upmost importance to me. Knowing this made my decision of how to maintain a healthy lifestyle simple. It was where I went that made it so unique.
“We have this amazing wet deck and beautiful view of Dallas to practice amongst,” said yoga instructor Jennifer Bartholomew.
My choice for maintaining a healthy pregnancy is yoga. Who better to assist me along my journey then fellow preggo and founder of Power Yoga Dallas Jennifer Bartholomew at the W Hotel in Dallas.
Where better to start then the very beginning also known as the lotus position.
“Why don’t we begin with your seated position,” said Bartholomew. “As you and I are both pregnant and we’re looking for some relaxation it’s a really nice place to start thinking about focusing our mind.”
Along with focusing comes the importance of breathing. Not only is this a major staple in regular yoga but it is just as important for prenatal yoga and delivery.
“During pregnancy we have a long road ahead especially during our delivery,” said Bartholomew. “Using your breath is a great way to relax. We have so many moments where we’ll be going through these intense contractions but if you can bring that concentration back to your breath then you’ll ease into that delivery much more easily than if you tighten your body.”
Unfortunately I didn’t get to relax and breathe for long. Next we were on to specific poses recommended for pregnant women. There is the cat-cow pose.
“It’s sometimes known as the pelvic tilt and this will help if you have any lower back pain and just help strengthen the lower back for our birthing,” said Bartholomew.
There is the squatting pose.
“This is a really important posture for our yoga practice,” said Bartholomew.
Last but not lease the warrior II pose which helps to improve balance and stabalize my loose, pregnant joints.
Bartholomew offers unbiased yoga to all through her first baby Power Yoga Dallas.
“It started on a very small, grass roots level and it’s growing just naturally and organically,” said Bartholomew.
