The fountain of youth may no longer have an expiration date. Women as early as their 20’s are putting science on their side by using a high tech treatment called Thermage to prevent aging.
“It’s kind of just like going to get a facial,” said Thermage patient Reascha Hedke. “It’s a little bit more intense and it’s going to give me a lot more benefit if I were going to get a facial once a month.”
With Thermage there are no injections or surgeries required. It’s a procedure that helps firm up skin in only one treatment.
“What we’re doing is a controlled thermal damage to the collagen in our skin which causes a very natural healing process,” said doctor Bill Johnson.
Thermage uses a unique radio frequency to heat the deep layers of the patient’s skin. Johnson, who works at Innovations MedSpa in Dallas, says the heat tightens old collagen and forms new ones.
“Collagen that’s supporting our skin is going to slowly over the years be stretched out,” said Johnson. “With the idea behind doing Thermage early is the skin will stretch but then new collagen is built so that overtime the overall result is much less for the same amount of time.”
The typical Thermage patient used to be in their 40’s but now more 20 year olds are taking steps to have long lasting radiance.
Hedke can’t predict her complexion forecast but at age 25 can take preventative action. She starts law school at SMU this fall and predicts she’ll look younger then her fellow classmates.
“It says it takes off about 3 to 5 years so I’m just going to start calling my new age instead of my old one. Now I’m 20 years old.”
