President Barack Obama said that police in Cambridge, Massachusetts, “acted stupidly” in arresting black Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. who is a friend of the president. After Obama’s comments a media frenzy ensued prompting the commander and chief to hold a beer summit with the professor along with the police officer who arrested him.
With all the talk of this Obama beer summit bringing opposing sides together one Dallas wine shop is asking the president a question. What about the wine?
“We were watching TV and heard about this beer summit,” said owner of SWiRLL Winery & Wine Bar K.C. Kronbach. “We were quite offended that wine was not mentioned and we want to try to make this a teachable moment for the president. We don’t want to say that he acted stupidly but he did offend the wine industry nation wide with this beer summit.”
SWiRLL Winery & Wine Bar located on Main Street in downtown Dallas is sending a message straight to the president.
“We’re going to send him a case of wine,” said Kronbach. “We’re sending six red and six white wines to keep it bipartisan. We’re calling it the Presidential Pinot. The reds are Presidential Pinot noirs and the whites are Presidential Pinot grigios. We’re going to send them up to the White House and hope that he decides to enjoy some wine.”
No one has to be commander and chief to enjoy this wine. SWiRLL invites customers to come in and create their own customized bottles.
“We’re custom making a batch of wine bottles for the president with his own Presidential Pinot labels but that doesn’t mean the ordinary person here in Dallas can’t come down to make their own wine with their own labels,” said Kronbach. “We let them sample from thirty different varieties that we have. Once they choose what they like we’ll come in and help them actually make the wine, add yeast to the grape juice and they’ll come back sixty days later and use any labels that they want.”
All people need to do is fill, cork and seal. Then comes the custom labels. So when the time comes again for President Obama to host another peace summit the owner of SWiRLL suggests he choose wine over beer.

Cheri – You can get wine with your picture on it! My husband and I made wine at Swirll last year, and we designed labels with a photo of our dog in the middle of our bluebonnet meadow. We’ve been to Swirll many times and have always had fun at every step of the process. We design different labels every time. These custom bottles of wine make perfect gifts, especially for Christmas. (And for the record, I have no affiliation with Swirll other than as a happy customer.)
