The heat did not stop fans from coming to see their favorite celebrities play baseball at the Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco. Dallas Stars player Mike Modano is one of the celebrities coming out to play baseball to support his foundation.
“Being in hockey and being around a lot of kids who aren’t as fortunate as you were growing up it really makes you want to do more,” said Mike Modano.
The Little Heroes Foundation provides the opportunity for programs that allow inner city youth to participate in sports. These programs encourage at risk kids to take an alternative path from drugs, gangs and violence.
“Heroes is such a great cause,” said Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. “If I can come out here and pretend to play some baseball for a good cause I’ll do it. You have to do it.”
Coming out to play baseball is not routine for most of these celebrities. They are not professional baseball players and there were many strikeouts but the fans didn’t seem to care.
“It’s good to come out and support this foundation,” said Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten. “I’m glad to be a part of it.”
“This baseball thing is for fun and charity because I can’t play baseball to save my life,” said former ‘N Sync singer Joey Fatone.
Some celebrities took the game more seriously then others.
“I’m here to beat Bradie James and Jay Ratliff,” said Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware. “Also I want to beat Warren Sapp. This is a competitive game.”
Dallas Cowboy Jay Ratliff is a little more humble.
“I haven’t caught a baseball in a while,” said Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Jay Ratliff. “We’ll just see how it goes.”
“The people from Reebock who are sponsoring this game are great,” said former Dallas Cowboys fullback Daryl “Moose” Johnston. “I’m also here because of the opportunity to be coached by Wade Boggs. You can’t turn that down. The guy is awesome.”

Uplifting story. It is great to know when celebrities take some time to engage in worthwhile causes.
