Now in its sixth year the Total Outdoorsman CHALLENGE is the country’s premiere competition for a sportsman. Contestants try to best each other in several events including archery, air rifle, endurance skill challenges and more.
About fifty men and women showed up in Grapevine, Texas for the Total Outdoorsman CHALLENGE. These are just a handful of people competing nationwide to get their chance to place in the final. Deemed the toughest by the 4 nationwide semifinals by Field & Stream Magazine the lucky top 3 scoring contestants will move on to the finals.
“I just want to get in the top 3,” said contestant Brian Cramer. “That’s what counts.”
Despite its name an outdoorsman can be male or female. Among the crowd of rugged faces was Paris, Texas native Christy Crawford. She is the only female contestant who competed.
“Archery is something that I try and get out to practice everyday I can,” said competitor Christy Crawford. “It’s my strong point and I’m hoping to good today in that.”
Crawford says she never thought she’d compete in an outdoorsman event but she hopes her raw talent and success sparks interest in other women.
