Cotton Bowl Turns Into A Dog Bowl!

A party for dogs for all shapes and sizes is the theme. Hundreds of dogs were out at Fair Park and the field of the Cotton Bowl was turned into a Dog Bowl inviting plenty of fun for dogs and their best friends.

“This is our third annual Dog Bowl” said president of Friends at Fair Park Craig Holcomb. “Literally one morning I was shaving and I thought I really want to take my dog down to the Cotton Bowl but it would be kind of lonely. We decided to throw a party.”

Sounds of live jazz and salsa energized the crowd while some dogs took a load off by relaxing in the pool.

“Fair Park is fun,” said Holcomb. “It’s not just the State Fair. It’s people having fun and not spending a lot of money.”

A Look-A-Like Contest showed off the similarities between dogs and their owners and games of frisbee brought out that sacred bond. Many of the canines came dressed to impress sporting the latest styles in dog wear.

“She has a dress but we put her in the pool so she could get cool,” said dog owner Taylor Phillips. “She’s spoiled rotten. She’s like my little kid which is why I’m never going to have any.”

With such a large gathering of dogs developing doggy social skills was a goal of the day.

“I’m trying to see if we’re getting her social etiquette going on,” said dog owner Debrah Jones.

“She only wants to talk to people,” said Phillips.

Along with plenty of fun and games the Dog Bowl made sure owners were able to gain helpful tips on caring for their pets during the Texas summer months.

“If it’s a dog that has a thick hair coat it’s important to keep them shaved down if they’re going to be outside a lot,” said veterinarian Virginia Ellsworth. “That’s going to be instant air conditioning for them.”

All the while owners just could not stop singing the praises of their prized pooches.

“She’s loyal and a good girl,” said Jones. “She’s obedient and she’s a friend.”

“She sleeps in the bed with us,” said Reginald Dorscy. “It’s the first time I’ve ever had a dog sleep in the bed with us. We love our dog.”
