Every Thursday night in June, Dallas Museum of Art will host Jazz Under the Stars. It’s a free event located outside of the museum, right at Ross Avenue Plaza.

There’s a good-size-stage surrounded by onlookers nestled into their groups or sitting alone enjoying the beautiful music on a Summer’s night. We heard the lovely Latin and world beat music of Ed Smith & John Bryant Sextet with Shelley Carrol.

Bring along lawn chairs or a blanket, and a picnic basket full of your favorite treats. We stopped by Eatzi’s for our faves before heading downtown, and we grabbed sandwiches to share, fresh cut cantaloupe, an assorted cheese plate, bottle of Fiji and don’t forget the wine! We even brought our small dog with us, and he made us a few new friends, including Saks Fifth Avenue Salon & Spa Massage therapsit, Cheryl Adams. She shared her bing cherries and a little cheddar cheese with our friendly four-legged faux son, Caiden, and he was living amongst the stars!

Although parking cost us $15, I bet you can find a place to park for free.

Jazz Under the Stars goes through Thursday, June 25th, 8-10pm. We parked at about 7pm, and the grass area was already quite full. Go early to find your perfect spot – but no matter where your chair or blanket finds itself, you’re sure to enjoy the Jazz Under the Stars.
