A new baby chimpanzee was born at the Dallas Zoo on April 19th. The zoo had a naming contest to see what they would name the baby and after more then 1250 entries, the winning name was a combination of both parents names of the chimp.

The father is named “KC “and the mother “Ramona” making the new name for the baby boy “Kona”.

The contest gave people from all over the country a chance to suggest baby names.

The winner received a one year family membership to the zoo, a photo and a certificate.

Here are some pictures of “Kona” courtesy of Cathy Burkey, Dallas Zoological Society

I was born in Lima, Peru. My family moved to the United States when I was 13 years old. It was hard getting used to things since I barely spoke any English but I finally did. During college I interned for the Dallas Cowboys doing everything from handling cameras at the press conferences to interviewing Cowboys in the locker room. I graduated from the University of Texas in Arlington in 2007 with a degree in Broadcasting and a minor in Spanish. I have worked as an assignment desk editor at Telemundo and NBC5 here in Fort Worth. I like being a journalist because every day there is a different story to tell. I want to be able to inform the Hispanic community. Feel free to email me for any story ideas
