Athletes around the world know that great players make great plays. For former Dallas Cowboy quarterback Quincy Carter it is one fumble after another. Carter now plays for an indoor football team in Abilene, Texas.
For the first time ever Carter spoke openly about drug usage, Jerry Jones, Tony Romo and his release from the Dallas Cowboys in an exclusive interview with DFWReporting.com senior reporter Kimberly Torres.
“It was a billionaire power play”, says Carter. “That’s what he [Jerry Jones] did. It was a billionaire power play. He [Jerry Jones] had the NFL lose those tapes. That’s how powerful Jerry Jones is.”
The NFL drug policy then and now prohibits teams from releasing a player because of a positive drug test. The Cowboys released Carter four days into training camp in 2004 under questionable circumstances.

Incredible Job. It is really interesting to hear Quincy’s view of everything. Way to ask the HARD questions Kimberly. This type of story will take DFWreporting.com to the next level. Awesome job on all who worked on it.

Great story, strong reporter and a good look of your production makes this an awesome feature! Keep up the excellent work.
BTW, do you think the Cowboys camp saw your story and got Quincy re-arrested? I mean, probation violation? come on!

Aern’t we all tired of this druggie? He was the worst draft pick Dallas ever made. Everyone at Georgia knew he was a thug/druggie.

While I could not be happier that he is not with the team it was a great piece on him. Very professional.

Tha’s a good story…great interview. I saw it and judged, watched it, and now I wonder. that’s a good job of reporting. I often wondered aout the details surrounding Quincy’s release. I never thought he had the talent he supposes he has, but I do think a solid career was sidelined by judgemental attitudes about Majijuana that were never excercised against players like Mark Stepnoski. An element of racism perhaps? Even as a caucasion, you just can’t help but wonder. Maybe it was the coke and not the weed…who knows now, but I wish Quincy the best. Great story either way.
