Athletes around the world know that great players make great plays. For former Dallas Cowboy quarterback Quincy Carter it is one fumble after another. Carter now plays for an indoor football team in Abilene, Texas.
For the first time ever Carter spoke openly about drug usage, Jerry Jones, Tony Romo and his release from the Dallas Cowboys in an exclusive interview with DFWReporting.com senior reporter Kimberly Torres.
“It was a billionaire power play”, says Carter. “That’s what he [Jerry Jones] did. It was a billionaire power play. He [Jerry Jones] had the NFL lose those tapes. That’s how powerful Jerry Jones is.”
The NFL drug policy then and now prohibits teams from releasing a player because of a positive drug test. The Cowboys released Carter four days into training camp in 2004 under questionable circumstances.

What a great piece. It is nice to hear someone admit their mistakes and how they have impacted his career and dreams. Incredible job.

Phenomenal job Kim!! Not to get off topic, but this piece puts Josh Hamilton’s story into greater perspective. The way Quincy opened up and you can see how rough a ride (no pun intended) he’s had, just makes me think of how much Josh had to overcome to beat his demons. You can tell Quincy still has a little fight left in him, but in my opinion he needs a great support cast in order to succeed. Great story and great job all around by dfwreporting! :-)

Fairly decent piece.
Too bad Quincy has messed himself up over the years, and his current problems and battles ensure he won’t get any higher than the level he is now. He’s been cut from NFL, CFL and arena2 and is in the lowest level of pro football.
At some point you have to realize and admit to yourself, while you may have been cut for drug problems, those problems have one way or another impacted your performance. I mean if the Cowboys had cut ever player that had a drug issue in the past, one of the triplets, Newton, and over half the team woulda been long gone.

Boy, I sure do feel sorry for Quincy. I liked him as soon as the Cowboys drafted him, partly because of the story I’d heard that as a child he’d written down a list of dreams he wanted to accomplish when older, and one of them was to play QB for the Cowboys. I’ll pray for Quincy and every young man (and woman) he represents, just trying to reach for something and knocking themselves down with distractions.

I’d rather have Romo. And I think Romo would have beaten him out anyway, he worked harder and took it serious.
It was a bad draft pick. He could have got himself straight after the cowboys cut him, but he kept getting on dope, like a dope.
